Day Event: Excursion to TEXTOR

Forschungszentrum Jülich is one of the largest independent
interdisciplinary research centres in Europe, and covers an area of 2.2 square kilometres. Research at Jülich is divided into four research areas: health, information, environment, and energy. We will visit TEXTOR, the largest nuclear fusion experiment in Julich. In experiments, hydrogen is heated to a temperature of up to 50 megakelvins so that it takes the form of plasma. The interaction of this plasma with the surrounding walls is part of the research performed at the tokamak experiment. The knowledge gained will mainly be applied in the planned ITER fusion power plant, which is currently being constructed in Cadarache in the South of France with the help of Forschungszentrum Jülich.

During our visit, the plant is not operated, and therefore we will have an excellent opportunity to see lots of it! Besides TEXTOR, we also have the chance to explore other energy related research projects including:

– Solar Cell Research
– Fuel Cell Research
– Safety Research for Nuclear Wastes

If you want to learn and see more of nuclear fusion research, join our excursion!
